Petra is celebrating 70 years of construction excellence!
Upon his honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1946, Mr. Petraiuolo began a career in the medical field as an X-ray technician, only to discover his true passion in life, which was to be a builder. Following his carpentry apprenticeship with outstanding mentors, he decided to start his own company. In 1953, Guido Petraiuolo established Petra Construction Corporation, which over the years provided residential, light commercial, and architectural woodworking services in the greater New Haven area. Throughout his career, Mr. Petraiuolo consistently demonstrated his aptitude for aesthetics and design, along with his enthusiasm for mentoring others. He had a remarkable work ethic and a deep-seated understanding of excellent customer service, with many of his customers becoming his closest friends.
Many of those same qualities were passed on to his son and current owner, Guido Petra. As a youth, Mr. Petra worked alongside his father for many years, consistently choosing the job site over the playground. Following his graduation from the University of Connecticut and increasing his level of engagement in the daily operations of the company, Mr. Petra rejoined his father and dedicated employees to strategically expand the commercial capacities of the company, leading to its current status as a reputable firm.

Safety
Safety is Petra Construction Corporation's top priority.
Our skilled and trained employees understand Petra Construction Corporation's standards for safety, quality, and codes of conduct, along with the applicable OSHA standards at the level for which they are trained. Training includes OSHA Outreach Training in Construction Safety as well as site-specific safety plans that are inspected frequently by supervisors, our Safety Specialist, and our Operations Manager.
Petra Construction Corporation is recognized annually by the Connecticut Construction Industries Association (CCIA) for Excellence in Construction Safety and Health.
The firm has also won multiple awards from construction trade associations for our outstanding safety performance, including from the Connecticut Safety Council and the Associated Builders and Contractors. We work diligently to always maintain safe job sites.
Fulfilling our mission requires attention to quality, productivity, cost control, and safety. All four of those areas of concentration are intertwined. Cost control, of course, includes the control of all potential accident costs.
Therefore, in keeping with our mission, we have instituted this policy:
"No job is so important, no service so urgent,
that we cannot take the time to perform our work safely."
“Petra’s policy on safety is one thing that comes to mind, not only for the fact that I can be sure that I won’t be placed in harm’s way, but also that I can request the advice of our in-house Safety Director for any safety situation that may arise, to be sure that the plan of action encompasses everyone’s overall safety.”
